The Banking Convoy.

A curated catalogue of digital banking applications for banks running the Backbase platform, built and maintained by our banking specialists and installed alongside your existing deployment, on your own premises.

The landscape

A platform is the start of a digital bank, not the whole of it.

Most of a bank's relationship with its customers now takes place in its mobile and web channels. Rather than build those channels from nothing, many banks adopt a digital banking platform that provides the foundations, typically an application framework, identity and entitlements, and connections to the bank's core systems. Backbase is one such platform.

A platform provides the foundations; each bank still needs the particular journeys its customers use, and those are commonly built project by project, bank by bank. The same journeys are built many times over, and each one has to be maintained, secured and upgraded alongside the platform it runs on.

Many banks are required, by their supervisors or by their own policies, to keep customer data on infrastructure they control. Their digital banking platform, and everything that runs on it, therefore runs on their own premises or in their own private infrastructure, and the bank carries the operation of the platform beneath it as well as the applications above it.

What the convoy is

A catalogue of applications, chosen and installed as one.

The Banking Convoy is an enhancement to Tersane for banks running the Backbase platform. It provides a catalogue of digital banking applications, built and curated by our banking specialists, which run on top of Backbase. A bank chooses the applications it needs, and installs them alongside its existing Backbase deployment in the same way it installs any Tersane chart.

Each application in the catalogue is maintained by Mamluk and delivered in versioned releases, as Tersane's charts are. The bank's own team spends its time on what distinguishes the bank, rather than on rebuilding journeys that every bank needs.

  • On your premises. The applications install inside your perimeter, beside your Backbase deployment. No data leaves it.
  • Built on Tersane. The convoy runs on the charts Tersane provides, so the databases, caches and identity beneath the applications are the ones documented here.
  • Curated by banking specialists. Each application is chosen, built and maintained by people who have delivered digital banking for banks.
